FORGING THE WEST by HaveyPro Cinema

When you talk about Pueblo, at some point in the conversation ‘Colorado Fuel & Iron’ will come up as it dominates the story of the ‘Steel City’. CF&I was the largest consolidated steel mill west of the Mississippi and credited with building the West. The Rockefeller Family was the longest owner of the steel mill from 1902 to WWII. The Guggenheims came to Pueblo earlier in the late 1800s to build their fortune and over the years the two empire building families created a legacy in our community where history, culture, commerce and the arts empower discovery. Recently HaveyPro Cinema released Forging the West which is the first full feature documentary to capture the story of Colorado Fuel & Iron.

A Film By HaveyPro Cinema In Association with Historic Pueblo, Inc. Coming Fall 2016 forgingthewestfilm.com The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I) began production in 1872 and grew to become the largest steel mill in the Western United States and a firm of enormous importance to the industrialization of the American West. The first steel mill west of the Mississippi River, CF&I also played a pivotal role in the tumultuous history of American labor relations. By the turn of the 20th Century the company was the largest private landowner and the largest employer in Colorado. CF&I mines and mining towns operated throughout the West, while subsidiary companies stretched from Massachusetts to California. Its mills in Pueblo, Colorado provided iron and steel products for agriculture, transportation, mining and other industries critical to western development. The company fueled immigration of ethnic groups to work in its mines and mills, playing an important cultural role in diversifying a burgeoning population. Forging the West will bring the epic story of an essential western industry to life for audiences throughout the state and region.
